Today's quotation:

What I am thinking and doing day by day is resistlessly
shaping my future--a future in which there is no
expiation except through my own better conduct.
No one can live my life for me.  If I am wise I shall begin
today to build my own truer and better world from within.

H.W. Dresser

Today's Meditation:

"My own truer and better world from within."  How I love that line--how much it says to me about the potential that I have to make my world a better place using the resources and abilities that already are inside of me, instead of waiting for someone or something else to come along and make my world better from the outside.  I know from experience that that simply won't happen--nice things most definitely can come from the outside, but true change for the better is an inside-out process.

Every day I'm shaping my future with my decisions and my actions.  My thoughts and my deeds shape my tomorrows, and only I can shape my future "through my own better conduct."  It's comforting to know that the life that I'm creating is the result of the spirit inside of me, that eternal part of who I am, that part that is concerned solely with becoming better by helping, by giving, by sharing, by showing compassion and love to my fellow spirits who share this beautiful planet with me.

No one can live my life for me, so there's no need for me to try to let anyone do so.  No one can create my tomorrows for me, no one can make decisions for me, no one can build a truer and better world for me, as that comes from within.  My life is my life, and while I can trust life and trust my God to be there for me at all times, I know that I was given my life to live in the best way I know how to live it.  And my hope is that I continue to build my tomorrows by improving my own conduct so that each day I give more love, share more compassion, and encourage more people.

Questions to consider:

How are you building your "world from within"?

Do you often think about improving your conduct?

Is it true that we're all shaping our own lives?

For further thought:

You may study with the highest teachers, but you will find no one but yourself teaching you.  You may travel the world over, yet find nothing but yourself, reflected the world over.  So if you now find yourself in a cell, take heart that of all the teachers in the world, out of all the places in the world, you still have with you the only ultimate ingredient of your journey:  yourself.
