All the wonders you seek
are within yourself.

Thomas Brown

Today's Meditation:

We seek and we seek and we seek, and we search and search, usually not thinking at all that the very thing we search for-- be it peace or riches or hope or love-- is within us the whole time.  Anything we could ever want is a part of us already.  Do I want to be rich?  Then I need to realize the riches inside of me and appreciate them.  Do I want to know secrets of the ancients?  Then I need to look at the answers that come from inside of me and heed them and live by them.

There are many wonders of the world, but even the ability to appreciate those wonders comes from inside of ourselves.  One person can stop and stare in awe at a beautiful rainbow, while another keeps on walking without paying the least attention to the wonder of the sight.  The first person is in touch with that part of him or herself that allows them to feel wonder, while the second is unable or unwilling to recognize the amazing qualities of the sight.

When I read Thomas' line, I think that it's time for me to stop looking only outside of myself for answers and wonders.  There are wonders out there, of course, and we should enjoy them, but it's also important to get in touch with ourselves-- who we are and what we are-- if we're to be in touch with the marvelous nature of life and living.

We can see, we can feel, we can love, we can laugh, we can interpret, we can appreciate, we can hope, we can anticipate, we can cry.  We are emotional, we are compassionate, we are intelligent, we are capable, we are talented, we are unique, we are united, we are interesting.  We are wonderful-- we are full of wonder.

Questions to consider:

What are some of the wonderful things about yourself?

Why do so many people look outside of themselves for things like answers and wonder and inspiration?

How might you get in touch more strongly with the wonderful aspects of who you are?

For further thought:

I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence, but it comes from within.  It is there all the time.
