Today's
quotation:
We look forward to the time
when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power.
Then will our world know the blessings of peace.

Ewart Gladstone

Today's
Meditation:
I've
often heard the term "The power of love," but I
had never before seen it in conjunction with the concept
of the love of power. It's a fascinating
juxtaposition, one that makes me think of what a shame it
is that the love of power so often keeps us from even
trying to experience or use the power of love.
When
we truly attempt to utilize the power that love gives to
us-- the power to affect other people in truly positive,
loving, uncontrolling ways-- then we are contributing to a
very important aspect of life. And this is true power
to affect the world-- by adding love and positive energy in
our own small ways among the people who are part of our
worlds.
But
what has to happen first? Parents must renounce
their desire (however good their intentions) to have power
over their children, and simply love them. Friends
and relatives must reject the idea of controlling others
and love and respect others instead. Politicians
must stop seeking personal power and influence and instead
work from a place of love, truly representing their
constituents. People in any position of power must
come from a place of love rather than of control, thus
contributing positively to the lives of others.
Then
can we know peace. Then will our minds and hearts be
stilled, and when they are stilled we'll be able to see
the world from a place other than fear, from a place that
is not defensive and frightened. Then we'll find
peace, and then we'll recognize peace for what it is and
embrace it and share it with others.

Questions to
consider:
How would you define the term "peace"?
What would you say are some of the attributes of the
Power of Love?
What would you say are some of the positive
contributions to the world that come from a Love of Power? |
For further
thought:
Someday,
after we have mastered the winds, the waves,
the tide and gravity, we shall harness. . . the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the
history of the world, humans will have discovered fire.

de Chardin
