Today's
Meditation:
I used to
believe in coincidences, but I'm not sure that I do any
more. I wouldn't say that they don't happen, but I'm
more inclined to believe that situations that seem to be
coincidence may be caused to happen in ways that we simply
don't understand. I've seen too many things happen
that simply make sense, in my life and in the lives of
others, for me to think that they've been simply chance.
We've
all heard about and read about the concept of things that
we "send out" into the universe coming back to
us. Some call it the Law of Attraction, some call it
other things, but it's the idea that we call to ourselves
certain things based on what we emit. If we emit
positive energy, we attract positive energy; if we start
thinking about our best friend, we run into our best
friend or get a call from him or her. We can call
that coincidence, but I like to think that such
coincidences really are life sending to us something that
we really need in the moment.
Of
course, I say "I like to think that." That
doesn't mean that what I think is true. But there is
a value in thinking this way: it allows us to see
coincidences as possible learning experiences when we're
willing to step back a little bit and ask ourselves why
this certain thing just happened. Was there a lesson
that we needed to learn? A piece of information that
needed to be passed on? Or was this just something
that we really needed at this moment, running into this
person?
Life
gives amazing things to us all day, every day.
Often, though, we discount them as "merely"
coincidence rather than seeing them as the gifts they
are. I hope that as I keep on going through life, I
learn to recognize those gifts and learn from them and
enjoy them as true blessings, for my life will grow richer
and fuller as I do so.
