Today's
quotation:
The
true Light is a gentle love which, rising in you,
causes you to
look on the world with understanding
and compassion and respect. When you respect the
souls of your brother and sister, you respect
their lives
in every way. This gentle spirit, this respect one for
another, must come. For this is the generation of
the one true Light,
and this true light is that of love.

Today's
Meditation:
I like the
idea of a gentle love, one that allows me to see the world
"with understanding and compassion and
respect." It's something that I aspire to, but
not something that I can say that I have-- or show-- all the
time. I think my goal is to simply continue to show
it more each day. If I'm able to show such a gentle
love for ten minutes today, then perhaps I'll be able to
show it for fifteen tomorrow, and twenty the next
day. Or perhaps not. I just know that I'll
keep trying to show it as much as I can.
Love
is what we're here for-- to give it and to receive
it. Love is a part of ourselves that we can share
with others in an effort to lighten the burden on others,
to give them hope and to make them feel a connection to
other human beings, to make them feel loved and
lovable. As recipients of love, we have the
opportunity to allow others to give in a loving way, an
action that helps them to know that they're contributing
to the positive side of the world, that they're giving the
best they can to others who are willing to accept it.
Of
course, we're not talking "romantic" love
here. We're talking about the love of person for
person or animal or other living thing, no matter what, the unconditional love that heals
and makes stronger. "Romantic" love is
something different, a sort of connection that isn't
simply love, but something more. And that's part of
our problem with finding this gentle love for others-- we
expect love to be something different than it is, so we're
often disappointed, or we sabotage it with unrealistic
expectations that simply can't be fulfilled.
So
our goal, if we want love to be a priority in our lives,
is to love. To love gently, to love truly, and to
love without condition or expectation of anything in
return. Anything less than this is simply not love,
and we want to love truly and completely and
bravely. We want to share the "love that is
real," and if we wish to do so then we must put that
love out there as well as accept it when it comes our way.
