Today's quotation:

In terms of days and moments lived, you’ll never again be as young as you are right now, so spend this day, the youth of your future, in a way that deflects regret.  Invest in yourself.  Have some fun.  Do something important.  Love somebody extra.  In one sense, you’re just a kid, but a kid with enough years on her to know that every day is priceless.

Today's Meditation:

Today is finally here, and here we are, ready to take full advantage of it and make the most of all that it has to offer!  Right?  We have something planned for today that will be a lot of fun, even if it's something we've done many times before.  We have room in our day for some sort of spontaneous something, even if it's just dropping by a co-worker's desk for a chat to find out how they really are, and listening to them when they talk.  This day is going to be full of moments, and we have the chance to make many of them magical moments!

It does take some effort to make the most of each day.  Most of that effort involves making decisions to do things that will nourish us, make us feel better and stronger.  This doesn't have to be my best day ever, but with some good decisions, I can most certainly make it a very, very good day.  I can eat that piece of cake that I normally say no to, or I can say no to that piece of cake that I normally would eat.  I can compliment someone, ask for advice, give a little gift, love a little extra.

We only get one of this day, so it's important that we make something special of it.  It may be a trying day, but getting through that kind of day is an accomplishment in itself, especially if we're able to see the positive in what seems to be negative, and if we're able to do something good in a situation that sorely needed something positive injected into it.  Today is here, and it's here just as much to have us give to it as take from it.  Yes, take what the day offers, but don't forget to give something special to the day also!

We can make this day special, if not in the huge "that-was- spectacular" sort of way, then in the way that we do many little good things, all day long, to brighten our own and other people's lives, even if for just a moment.  The action may last just a moment, but the memories of the good that we've done last a very long time.  Let's make today a day that we can look back on in fondness, knowing that we've given what we can, and we've taken what we need.

Questions to consider:

What are a few things that you can do today to make the day brighter for yourself and someone else, perhaps someone whose day you normally wouldn't think about brightening?

Why is it so easy to get caught up in the day and miss out on making the most of what it has to offer us?

How might you make this particular day a new start?

For further thought:

There is only one way really to live, and that is to start out every morning with a firm resolution to get the most out of that day, to live it to the full.  No matter what happens or does not happen, what comes or does not come, resolve that you will extract from every experience of the day something of good, something that will make you wiser and show you how to make fewer mistakes to-morrow.  Say to yourself, "This day I begin a new life.  I will forget everything in the past that caused me pain, grief, or disgrace."
