Today's
Meditation:
When I was
younger, I always saw attitude as an effect rather than a
cause. Life threw good things at you: positive
attitude. Life walked all over you: negative
attitude. As I grow older and older, though, I
realize that life itself really isn't the causal agent
here-- our attitudes actually cause our life situations,
and many people who haven't figured this out yet continue
to cause extremely negative things to happen to them, and
they choose to blame life for this reality rather than
looking at the true culprit. After all, why the heck
would we cause bad things to happen to ourselves?
The
truth is, of course, that we usually don't do so on
purpose. But many of the things that we actually do
in life aren't done on purpose, and the ways that we can
cause negative things to happen in our lives is no
exception. When we have a negative attitude, we
attract other people with negative attitudes as well as
negative situations that may seem like coincidence, but
that are truly far from coincidental.
Do
you want to stop sabotaging yourself? Then start
thinking in positive ways about positive things, and
attract to yourself the positive elements and people of
life. Act in the ways that you would like to be
treated, start looking at the world in ways that will
allow you to see and appreciate the beauty and wonder, and
focus on the positive aspects of your life rather than the
negative. This shift in attitude can change your
life in extremely significant ways.
Of
course, bad things will still happen. But you don't
have to look at them as if your whole life is full of such
bad things. Accept them, understand why they
happened, learn from them, and move on. You can
shape the rest of your life by the attitude you bring to
the rest of your life, and it's possible to make it a
beautiful experience.
