You can start anew at any given
moment.  Life is just the passage
of time and it’s up to you to
pass it as you please.

Charlotte Eriksson

No first step can be really great; it must of necessity possess more of prophecy than of achievement; nevertheless it is by the first step that one marks the value, not only of one's cause, but of oneself.

Katherine Cecil Thurston

Each sunrise brings a new day filled with new hopes for a new beginning.

Debasish Mridha

You are never too old to start over.  Every day is a chance to make changes to create the life we want.

Karon Waddell

When one starts a new chapter, the page shouldn’t be messy with commentary but white and crisp, ready for one’s best self.

Nadine Bjursten
Half a Cup of Sand and Sky

"Endings...,” she mumbled to herself, as she watched the rain fall, “they’re just new beginnings in disguise.”  It was an affirmation of hope amidst the chaos--a reminder that no matter how daunting the task ahead may seem, there was always a new beginning waiting.

Layla Soreyne
Arya and the Guardians of Azhira

When you feel like you have been hit, dig deep and hit back.
Rock bottom is not your end; it is your beginning.

The funny thing about wishes--sometimes all it took
to make them come true was a first step.

T.J. Klune

The best thing about existence is that any moment
in time can be a point of beginning to anything!

Mehmet Murat Ildan

Every day is a chance to begin again. Don’t focus on
the failures of yesterday, start today with positive
thoughts and expectations.

Catherine Pulsifer

What a seductive belief—that one can start fresh simply by
jettisoning one’s history, that one can leave all
that is painful or unsavory behind.

Susan Rebecca White

Though we may not have reached the heights we anticipated
yesterday, today is a brand new day to begin a new climb.

Chinonye J. Chidolue

No, this is not the beginning of a new chapter in my life; this is
the beginning of a new book!  That first book is already closed,
ended, and tossed into the seas; this new book is newly opened,
has just begun!  Look, it is the first page!  And it is a beautiful one!

C. JoyBell C.

We grow up with such an idealistic view on how our life should
be:  love, friendships, a career or even the place we will live--
only to age and realize none of it is what you expected and
reality is a little disheartening.  When you've reached that
realization, you have learnt the best gift of all, that any new
beginning can start now, and if you want anything badly
enough, you'll find the courage to pursue it with all you have.
The past doesn't have to be the future; stop making it so.

Nikki Rowe

Perhaps that is where our choice lies -- in determining how
we will meet the inevitable end of things, and how
we will greet each new beginning.

Elana K. Arnold

It may not be the life you imagined, but it’s your life.  You came
here for a reason. Is it time for you to go and begin again?

Doug Cooper

But there's a beginning in an end, you know?  It's true that
you can't reclaim what you had, but you can lock it up
behind you.  Start fresh.

Alexandra Bracken
The Darkest Minds

The chief beauty about time
is that you cannot waste it in advance.
The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you,
as perfect, as unspoiled,
as if you had never wasted or misapplied
a single moment in all your life.
You can turn over a new leaf every hour
if you choose.

Arnold Bennett

We get to grab the pen and write the next line.  We aren’t starting a
whole new book; we are just writing a new chapter.  The last chapter
of our life ended with the loss—the divorce, the death of a dream,
the career collapse, whatever it may be.  Even though it ended, this is
where the story gets good.  We get to decide what happens next.
If we are still alive, we get to dream!
You haven’t lost it all. You are still here! This isn’t the end of your
story; it’s the start of a new chapter, and you, my friend, are holding
the pen. What do you want your story to be?

Kayla Stoecklein
Rebuilding Beautiful

This was the beginning of something big, that much I knew.  It used to be
hard for me to cherish new beginnings because I found myself anxious to
learn what would come next. I always got too far ahead of myself. . . . Desire
hung heavy in the air, a third part to our every action.
But the present was perfect too.  Sweet and full of hope.

Bridget Morrissey

A garden can always change things,” she said smiling as she knelt down
and dug her hands into the earth.  “With new seeds there are new beginnings.”

Nina Willner
Forty Autumns

It poured with rain the day I left.  But I was filled with excitement,
a strange exuberant sense of taking wing. I didn't know where
I was going, but I knew what I needed. I needed a new land, a
new race, a new language; and although I couldn't have
put it into words then, I needed a new mystery.

John Fowles

New beginnings

are worth it

and adventure

Yes, life can be mysterious and confusing--but there's much of life that's actually rather dependable and reliable.  Some principles apply to life in so many different contexts that they can truly be called universal--and learning what they are and how to approach them and use them can teach us some of the most important lessons that we've ever learned.
My doctorate is in Teaching and Learning.  I use it a lot when I teach at school, but I also do my best to apply what I've learned to the life I'm living, and to observe how others live their lives.  What makes them happy or unhappy, stressed or peaceful, selfish or generous, compassionate or arrogant?  In this book, I've done my best to pass on to you what I've learned from people in my life, writers whose works I've read, and stories that I've heard.  Perhaps these principles can be a positive part of your life, too!
Universal Principles of Living Life Fully.  Awareness of these principles can explain a lot and take much of the frustration out of the lives we lead.
