I find letters from God dropped in the street,
and
every one is signed by God's name.
Walt Whitman |
|

An important
note: Our pages on God are not meant in any way to change
anyone's
minds or beliefs-- rather, we're simply trying to present the many
complex ways that
people of all faiths look at their idea of a deity. Some
passages may mention a particular
religion or denomination, but that doesn't mean that that
perspective is being presented
as right or wrong-- it just is. The concept of God is so
predominant among humans,
though, that it seems wrong not to include these words on this site.

I
walk in faith. When my attention is on areas of conflict in
the world, I may
perceive planet Earth as being in chaos. However, when I
keep my focus on God, I am reminded of the wonder in life and the ultimate
outworking of good. External appearances may create fear and worry--but I give them no
power. I hold to the truth that God is always present, even in
challenging circumstances,
and that divine order always prevails.

People see God every day; they just don't recognize
him.

It's
the beginning of your day. You awake and look around
you,
feeling
perhaps a joyful expectation, or perhaps an
awful dread. No
matter
which, remember this: God loves
you with an infinite love.

If you meditate on your ideal, you will acquire its
nature. If you think of God day and night, you will acquire the nature of
God.
Ramakrishna

God's
presence. . . is an inner experience that never changes. It's a relationship that's there all the time, even when we're
not paying attention to it. Perhaps the Infinite holds us to
Itself
in the same way the earth does. Like gravity, if it ever
stopped
we would know it instantly. But it never does.

God is life.
I understand that and express it.
God is perfect Truth.
I
understand that and express it.
God is Love.
I
understand that and express it.
I radiate thoughts of love and
peace and healing to the
whole universe. If
anyone has ever injured
me or done me any harm, I fully and freely
forgive that person now,
and the thing is done forever.
I go free.

The distance between you and God is as thin as an
insect's wing.
from the Guru Granth Sahib |
|
That has been my personal
relationship
with
God--a
connection with
the powerful,
loving, wise energy
in all of
us, in all creation.
It
is the
life force itself. We
can all
have contact with it
each
moment in our lives, but it
takes commitment and practice.
We must be willing to move
through all our deepest fears,
doubts, and misunderstandings.

God respects me when I work, but loves me when I

Rabindranath Tagore |
Our best chance of finding God is
to look in the
place where we left him.
Meister Eckhart |
God is an angel in an angel, a stone
in a stone,
and a straw in a straw.
John Donne |
There

John Fowles |

The surest way to determine whether one possesses
the love of God is to see
whether he or she loves his or her neighbor. These two loves
are never
separated. Rest assured, the more you progress in love of
neighbor the more
your love of God will increase.
Teresa of Avila |
|
God cannot endure that unfestive, mirthless
attitude of ours in
which we eat our bread in sorrow, with pretentious, busy haste,
or even with shame. Through our daily meals He is calling us
to
rejoice, to keep holiday in the midst of our working day.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer |
|
We need not wings to go in search of Him, but
have only to find a place
where we can be alone--and look upon Him present within us.
Teresa of Avila |
|
There
is only one basic desire that motivates the spiritual seeker—to
make the experience of God, of divine bliss and joy, the center of
the
life experience.
We are spiritual beings living in a material universe,
and as such, our first priority is to nurture that eternal part of
us.
The eleventh step of AA’s twelve-step program states it
beautifully:
“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious
contact with God as we understood him, praying only for knowledge
of his will for us and the power to carry that out.”
Douglas Bloch |

When
I look like this into the blue sky, it seems so deep, so peaceful,
so full of a mysterious tenderness, that I could lie for centuries
and wait
for the dawning of the face of God out of the awe-inspiring
loving-kindness.

She no longer talked to God. It seemed
childish to chatter at Him. Besides, she no
longer needed His constant attention. For a while she had
thought He had gone away
or never existed, but she decided that was foolish. She was
aware of Him all the time,
winking at her from the flowers, serenading her in the song of a
bird, smiling at her
from the furry face of a kitten, touching her with a soft summer
breeze. She found a line
in a book that she thought was apt, from Dave Tyson Gentry:
"True friendship comes
when silence between two people is comfortable." Well,
who was your best friend,
if not God, and what did you really need to say to Him or He to
you when you both
already knew the most--and only--important thing, which was
that you would always be there for each other.

I
felt it better to speak to God than about Him.
St. Theresa of Lisieux |

God is
love. His plan for creation can only be rooted in
love. Does not that
simple thought, rather than erudite reasoning, offer solace to the
human heart?

Divinity
is not something supernatural that ever and again invades the
natural order in a crashing miracle. Divinity is not in some
remote heaven,
seated on a throne. Divinity is love. . . . Wherever
goodness, beauty,
truth, love, are--there is the divine.
Harry Emerson Fosdick |

We
stand, every day and every night, in the very presence of a power
so incomparable as to make the senses reel. And yet,
happily, this
power--the intelligence behind all the marvels of the summer sky--
is a benevolent one. The person who pays attention will
hear, deep
within his or her soul, a quiet and friendly voice saying:
"This, and so much more also, is yours to share."
Vernon R. Harris |

For the rest of my life I'm
going to trust that God is always at work in all things,
and give him thanks long before my simplest prayers are answered.

God is life.
God is life in action. The best way to say, "I love
you,
God," is to live your life doing your best. The best
way to say,
"Thank you, God," is by letting go of the past and
living in the
present moment, right here and now. Whatever life takes away
from you, let it go. When you surrender and let go of the
past,
you allow yourself to be fully alive in the moment. Letting
go of
the past means you can enjoy the dream that is happening
right now.

God
will not force himself upon us against our will. If we want
his love, we need to believe in him. We need to make a
definite,
positive act of commitment and surrender to the love of God.
No one can do it for us.
Billy Graham |

Everything
which relates to God is infinite. We must therefore, while
we
keep our hearts humble, keep our aims high. Our highest
services are
indeed but finite, imperfect. But as God is unlimited in
goodness,
He should have our unlimited love.
