success  -  success 2

The hopeful person sees success
where others see failure, sunshine
where others see shadows and storm.

Orison Swett Marden

There are two kinds of success.  One is the very rare kind that comes to the person who has the power to do what no one else has the power to do.  That is genius.   But the average person who wins what we call success is not a genius.  That person is a man or woman who has merely the ordinary qualities that they share with their fellows, but who has developed those ordinary qualities to a more than ordinary degree.

Theodore Roosevelt

You want to know the biggest illusion about success?  That it's like a pinnacle to be climbed, a thing to be possessed, or a static result to be achieved.  If you want to succeed, if you want to achieve all your outcomes, you have to think of success as a process, a way of life, a habit of mind, a strategy for life.

Anthony Robbins

My mentor taught me that success is a numbers game and very early he started asking me my numbers.  He asked, "How many books have you read in the last ninety days?" I said, "Zero"; he said, "Not a good number."  He said, "How many classes have you attended in the last six months to improve your skills?"  And I said, "Zero."  He said, "Not a good number."  Then he said, "In the last six years that you've been working, how much money have you saved and invested?"  I said, "Zero" and he said, "Not a good number."  Then here's what he said, "Mr. Rohn, if these numbers don't change your life won't change.  But," he said, "If you'll start improving these numbers then perhaps you'll start to see everything change for you."

Jim Rohn

To follow without halt, one aim; there is the secret of success.  And success?  What is it?  I do not find it in the applause of the theater.  It lies rather in the satisfaction of accomplishment.

Anna Pavlova

Real success and mastery in athletics or any other area requires us to go
beyond past limitations, to extend ourselves further than we ever have
before, to focus on the result and break barriers that used to slow us
down or even stop us.  Do you see how this metaphor of athletic training
applies to you and me?  As you discipline yourself and pursue your goals
with God’s help, you will surge past old barriers and move ahead.

Richard L. Ganz

You have to define success in your own way.  What maintains
your dignity and integrity and what is your life’s plan;
where do you want to put your efforts?  I could be richer
and more famous, but I would have to give up things
that are of infinitely more value.

Laura Schlessinger

If you have a good name, if you are right more often than you
are wrong, if your children respect you, if your grandchildren
are glad to see you, if your friends can count on you and you
can count on them in time of trouble, if you can face your God
and say “I have done my best,” then you are a success.

Ann Landers

The line between failure and success is so fine that we scarcely know
when we pass it; so fine that we are often on the line and don't know it.
How many a person has thrown up his or her hands at a time when a
little more effort, a little more patience, would have achieved success?

Elbert Hubbard

Success is not a matter of position or possession.  It is a frame of
mind.  It is the satisfying feeling of a life spent in a worthwhile
way, and a feeling of service rendered.

Stephen M. Paulson

What people call overnight success is generally the
result of years of intensive preparation.

The person who has done his or her level best is a success,
even though the world may write him or her down as a failure.

The common idea that success spoils people by making them vain,
egotistic, and self-complacent is erroneous; on the contrary it makes
them, for the most part humble, tolerant, and kind.
Failure makes people bitter and cruel.

Somerset Maugham

The trouble with most of us is that we envy the success of
others.  We often fail to get our share of success because we
spend so much time trying to get the other person's share.

Fred Van Amburgh

Success in life has been achieved when all that one wants
is finely balanced by all that one needs.

Sufi saying

Most people are quitters.  This is wonderful news for those of
us who decide to be successful.  It means that if we stick to what
we are doing, we will, in a very short time, be ahead of the multitudes.

Andrew Matthews

Success doesn't always bring the anticipated sense of fulfillment.
For some, success evokes a sense of disillusionment.

Melvyn Kinder

If you would have a successful life, less and less try to make
things happen and more and more just let things happen.

Ormond McGill

I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's
as unique as a fingerprint--and that the best way to succeed is
to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others
in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing
the energy of the universe to lead you.

Oprah Winfrey

Don't aim at success.  The more you aim at it and make it a target,
the more you are going to miss it.  For success, like happiness,
cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended
side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself
or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself.
Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success:  you have to
let it happen by not caring about it.  I want you to listen to what your
conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best
of your knowledge.  Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in
the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely
because you had forgotten to think about it.

Viktor E. Frankl
Man's Search for Meaning

Success does not consist in never making mistakes
but in never making the same one a second time.

George Bernard Shaw

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed
is more important than any one thing.

Abraham Lincoln

In order to succeed, your desire for success should
be greater than your fear of failure.

Bill Cosby

There are many aspects to success; material wealth is only one
component.  But success also includes good health, energy and
enthusiasm for life, fulfilling relationships, creative freedom,
emotional and psychological stability, a sense of well-being,
and peace of mind.

Deepak Chopra

Success means we go to sleep at night knowing that our
talents and abilities were used in a way that served others.

Marianne Williamson

The true measure of success is how many times
you can bounce back from failure.

Stephen Richards

Success is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your
maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others.

John C. Maxwell

To succeed in life, you need three things:
a wishbone, a backbone and a funnybone.

Reba McEntire

I do not know anyone who has got to the top without hard
work.  That is the recipe.  It will not always get you
to the top, but it should get you pretty near.

Margaret Thatcher

Success is how hard you bounce when you hit the bottom.

George S. Patton

We are prone to judge success by the index of our salaries or the
size of our automobiles rather than by the quality of our service
and our relationship to humanity.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

The first requisite for success is the ability to apply your physical
and mental energies to one problem incessantly without growing weary.

Thomas Alva Edison

Success is often achieved by those who don't know that failure is inevitable.

Coco Chanel

Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result
of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort
to become the best of which you are capable.

John Wooden

The idea of success is so often tied to happiness in people’s minds.  It’s true that they are both inner concepts—something that you are.  When you have success inside you, you bring it to every single thing you do in life.  You bring it to your children; you don’t get it from raising them the “right” way.  You don’t get it by closing the deal; you bring it to every aspect of the deal.  You don’t get it by concerning yourself with your commission or quotas; you get it by concentrating on your customers.  You forget about all the things you’re going to obtain, and instead enjoy what you discover along the path of enlightenment.  If you simply go out and endeavor to live your own life the way you choose, making every day a miracle, success will arrive in your life in amounts greater than you could ever have anticipated.

Wayne Dyer
Happiness Is the Way

Yes, life can be mysterious and confusing--but there's much of life that's actually rather dependable and reliable.  Some principles apply to life in so many different contexts that they can truly be called universal--and learning what they are and how to approach them and use them can teach us some of the most important lessons that we've ever learned.
My doctorate is in Teaching and Learning.  I use it a lot when I teach at school, but I also do my best to apply what I've learned to the life I'm living, and to observe how others live their lives.  What makes them happy or unhappy, stressed or peaceful, selfish or generous, compassionate or arrogant?  In this book, I've done my best to pass on to you what I've learned from people in my life, writers whose works I've read, and stories that I've heard.  Perhaps these principles can be a positive part of your life, too!
Universal Principles of Living Life Fully.  Awareness of these principles can explain a lot and take much of the frustration out of the lives we lead.
